ICON Smile Studios, a Hampton Roads specialty dental group founded by Dr. Yugal Behl and Dr. Monika Madan, has opened two flagship multidisciplinary campuses in Virginia Beach and Norfolk, marking the most significant expansion in the organization's history. The new locations at 125 Independence Boulevard in Virginia Beach and 155 Kingsley Lane in Norfolk bring together the group's specialty brands—Behl Orthodontics, Madan Periodontics & Implant Dentistry, and ICON Pediatric Dentistry—along with oral and maxillofacial surgery and sedation dentistry, all under one roof.
This integrated model allows patients of all ages to access coordinated, specialist-level care without being referred across multiple offices. According to Dr. Behl, the goal is to bring specialist-level orthodontic and dental care to every family in Hampton Roads, regardless of zip code. The flagship campuses are the clearest expression of that vision, offering families the specialties they need most in one visit.
The expansion builds on a legacy that traces back to 1960, when Fulton Orthodontics opened as one of the region's pioneering orthodontic practices. A decade later, Albinder Orthodontics was founded, and both practices, along with Virginia Beach Orthodontics, have become part of the Behl Orthodontics network. Dr. Behl, who completed his orthodontic specialty training at Boston University and later an Executive MBA at William & Mary's Raymond A. Mason School of Business, has grown the practice to seven locations across Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Hampton, and Yorktown since founding it in 2010.
Dr. Madan, a periodontist and implant specialist, co-founded ICON Smile Studios with Dr. Behl on the shared belief that dental care should be comprehensive and patient-centered. The organization's subsidiary brands give patients access to a full spectrum of specialty dental care in a single, coordinated visit. "Patients shouldn't have to navigate five different offices to get the care their smile needs," Dr. Madan said. "When our specialists can collaborate under one roof, patients get better outcomes and a far less stressful experience."
The Virginia Beach and Norfolk openings kick off a multi-year expansion plan, with locations planned for Hampton in 2027 and Williamsburg in 2028. Dr. Behl emphasized the importance of honoring the past while investing in the future: "The next 60 years are about honoring the past while investing in the future. That means developing exceptional leaders, advancing specialty dentistry, and continuing to serve generations of Hampton Roads families—the same way Fulton Orthodontics and Albinder Orthodontics did for us."
