Clym Environmental Opens Solar-Powered Biohazard Processing Facility in Frostburg

FROSTBURG, MD — Clym Environmental Services, LLC officially opened its new processing facility in Frostburg, Maryland, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 27, 2026. The event drew more than 100 attendees, including elected officials, industry leaders, and community partners, who gathered to celebrate the milestone.

The ceremony included a VIP tour of the facility and information stations showcasing the company's ozone treatment technology, along with a rendering of the soon-to-be-completed interior. Energy Select, the solar company responsible for the facility's solar installation, hosted a display highlighting the benefits of the new solar system that will power Clym's operations.

The program featured remarks from regional and state leaders. Juli McCoy, President & CEO of the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce, and Richard Police, Director of Business Development at Clym, introduced the speakers. Remarks were delivered by Charles Watts, President of Clym Environmental; Secretary Harry Coker of the Maryland Department of Commerce; Bill Atkinson, Allegany County Commissioner; Jeff Barclay, Director of Allegany County Economic Development; and Kelly Schulz, CEO of the Maryland Tech Council.

McCoy emphasized the facility's significance, stating, "Today we celebrate the future. Clym Environmental will create living-wage jobs, and its operations, using technology and environmental science, make its proximity to Frostburg State University a perfect fit for the Frostburg Business Park and Allegany County."

The event also included a certificate of congressional recognition, presented on behalf of Congresswoman April McClain Delaney. Kendall Abruzzese, Western Maryland Outreach Coordinator, delivered the certificate, praising Clym's "pioneering work in environmentally friendly and innovative waste management biotechnology" and thanking the company for its "contribution to workforce opportunities and long-term economic growth in Western Maryland."

Once fully operational, the Frostburg facility will use Clym's proprietary ozone treatment technology to process biohazardous material into safe, reusable materials. The technology generates ozone from ambient air and is powered by solar energy, an approach designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional thermal treatment methods.

This ribbon-cutting follows several milestones for the project, including Clym's recognition as the Life Sciences Innovation of the Year winner at the Maryland Tech Council's 2026 ICON Awards. The facility supports Clym's continued growth across the eastern United States and reinforces its role in advancing sustainable waste management practices for the life sciences, healthcare, and pharmaceutical industries.
