Trollinger Law LLC has announced that nominations are now open for its annual Hometown Heroes Award, an initiative designed to recognize the invaluable contributions of first responders in Charles County and throughout Southern Maryland. The firm, led by founder Matt Trollinger, a personal injury and workers' compensation lawyer in Waldorf, established this award to shine a spotlight on those who often work behind the scenes to protect and serve their communities.
Eligible nominees include a wide range of emergency personnel: paramedics, police officers, firefighters, emergency response teams, public safety providers, emergency hospital facilities and workers, military service members, and other emergency workers. The contest is open to all local first responders in the region, and winners will be announced on October 5, 2026.
Each winner will receive a $500 cash prize and four complimentary tickets to a luxury suite at the D.C. United game on October 24, where they can celebrate alongside other honorees and the Trollinger Law staff. In addition, the honorees will be recognized on the field at halftime, offering public acknowledgment of their dedication.
Previous honorees have included current and retired members of the Charles County Sheriff's Office, the Marine Corps, the Charles County Department of Emergency Medical Services, local police and fire departments, and volunteer rescue squads. Their stories underscore the diverse and critical roles that first responders play in ensuring community safety.
"We started Hometown Heroes as a way to honor a group of people whose efforts to protect and serve others often happen behind the scenes, with no expectation of recognition," said Matt Trollinger. "First responders help people and families during some of their darkest and most vulnerable hours. We're proud to express our appreciation for their courage and support."
The nomination process is straightforward, and questions can be directed to Dawn Williamson via email. This initiative is part of Trollinger Law's broader commitment to the community, which includes representing injured individuals in Southern Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia in workers' compensation and personal injury matters, including car accidents, truck accidents, slip-and-fall accidents, wrongful death, and medical malpractice. The firm operates offices in Waldorf, La Plata, and Frederick, and offers free consultations to those seeking legal guidance.
By honoring first responders, Trollinger Law not only expresses gratitude but also highlights the essential services these professionals provide. This recognition is particularly meaningful in a time when the demands on emergency personnel are ever-increasing. The award serves as a reminder of the courage and commitment required in these roles, and it encourages the community to reflect on the importance of supporting those who are always ready to respond in times of crisis.
Nominations are now being accepted, and the deadline is approaching. This annual tradition underscores the firm's dedication to the community it serves and sets an example for other organizations to follow. As the October announcement date nears, the firm anticipates a strong response from the community, eager to honor those who give so much of themselves to protect others.
